Welcome to the Australian Business Analysis Association

The Australian Business Analysis Association is a professional organisation which seeks to define, promote and support Business Analysis as a profession nation wide. Business Analysis as a term provides a collective umbrella for professionals working in the areas of Commercial, Process, Technical and Systems Analysis. The organisation shall seek to provide a professional framework supporting those who work in this area.

The Australian Business Analysis Association is a non-profit, vendor independent professional association with the objective to:

  • Define the profession of Business Analysis
  • Promote the profession and increase public awareness of Business Analysis
  • Develop a Business Analysis competency framework
  • Improve the practice of Business Analysis and the knowledge, competence and standing of its practitioners
  • Represent the profession nationally and internationally
  • Provide a forum for the free exchange of information and ideas.


This shall be achieved through:

  • Professional development programs
  • Social networking opportunities
  • Working groups
  • Special Interest Groups
  • Industry promotional events, participation in Standards development.

Creating and implementing a competency framework for Business Analysis is a challenge that has been tackled in a range of areas in the absence of a nationally accredited framework. This presentation was given by Mark Hall of BT Financial Group in South Australia at the most recent ABAA South Australian User Group, who has been instrumental in introducing a competency-based staff development framework for BT's business analysts.

Developing a BA competency framework for your organisation?

It's great to hear that several organisations have started investing time and energy into developing a competency frameworks for Business Analysts and are working hard to define what career paths are available for BAs.

Over the last few weeks, I have received several enquiries regarding which organisations provide training courses for Business Analysts.

I have started gathering and publishing a list in the links section of this website as a reference for anyone that doesn't have the time to trawling through internet.

If you do attend courses from any of these providers, please let us know what you thought in the abaa forums.
