About the Australian Business Analysis Association

ABAA – who are we?

The ABAA is Australia’s non-profit, vendor independent professional association delivering networking opportunities, skills development, advice and certification of Business Analysts in Australia. We aim to promote the profession by enhancing the skills of our members and providing support to those working in all areas of Business Analysis.

What do we do?

Events: We welcome Business Analysis and their colleagues to join us at our regular presentations on topics relevant to BA and associated roles. We work collaboratively with several other related organisations to source a variety of experienced presenters and provide ample opportunity for our members to ask questions and seek guidance at these events.

Australian Business Analysis Competency Framework: The Australian Business Analysis Competency Framework (ABACF) provides the business analysis profession with an opportunity to assess business analysis skills, techniques and experiences against an accessible matrix of expected competencies. The ABACF is due for release in June 2009.

Freely available through the Australian Business Analysis Association (ABAA) the ABACF is based on the International Institute of Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK) and has been developed through a series of engagement workshops involving input from Australian government agencies, private corporations, training organisations, and peak industry bodies.

Nationally, for first time employers will be able to use the ABACF to understand the competency levels of their existing business analysts and prospective business analyst employees. The ABACF defines three levels of accreditation which are attainable through an assessment process based on evidence of practical experience, training, reference checks and interviews.

Web Forums: Please join us, post a question, see what others are asking. Our forums provide an opportunity for members to seek assistance from other BAs on almost any topic – but try not to get stuck in analysis paralysis!

Committee: We recognize that the BA profession is one that can require a wide range of skills but also that many of us specialise in particular areas of business analysis. Our committee has a range of skills and practical experience, contacts and networks within the BA world. Contact us anytime for advice and we’ll try our best to help you or put you in contact with someone who can!

Sponsorship: The ABAA is not for profit, and our running costs are purely based on membership fees and support from industry and government. If you and your organization would like to support us, please don’t hesitate to view out sponsorship policy and contact us!
